but not so hungry that you would walk to somewhere to buy lunch yet.
On your table, right in the centre, presents a dish.
You look around- the office is empty; everyone else has left for lunch (they seem to like to eat at the 12-1 hour), it is almost as if the dish is willing you to eat itself.
It is piping hot, smells awesome, and is done up the way you usually like it.
But the ingredients are kind of foreign to you, and also rather different from the kind of food that you usually eat, so you're not really sure if you'd be able to stomach it. You are excited that it appeared right in front of you, out of no where, and that it looks delicious, but worried that you would possibly get diarrhea from eating it. You then realise you can't use chopsticks to eat it, so you pick up the fork from the table setting (that we assume has magically appeared with the dish), and your hand hovers over the dish as you consider.
Then, as you contemplate,
right on the corner of your table,
appears a box of donuts. You don't know if the donuts are meant for you or not, because they are seated right at the border of where your table ends and your colleague's table begins but your colleague isn't at her/his seat, and it seems as if the donuts have magically appeared for you. You remember once you had wanted to eat these donuts but you had just never gotten down to braving the queue, nor did anyone buy them for you. You are frustrated that you hadn't managed to eat them when you had really wanted to, but surprised and confused that they appeared at the corner out of the blue. They are nothing fanciful or extravagant, but just looking at the packaging elicits fond memories, and you feel the urge to reach towards the far end of the table to open the box and grab a bite into something warm, comforting and familiar.
before you make your decision,
here are some assumptions/rules/reminders
1. lunch is 12-2pm. It is barely 12noon now.
2. In no way is it possible to eat both the dish AND the donut.
This is a strictly either or choice.
so, taking these into consideration,
do you then decide to:
1. eat the dish,
2. eat the donut, or
3. go hungry altogether?
