questions.

i know asking questions is the best way of understanding/ getting to know people/things/situations, but this implies asking smart questions. A lot of the time it annoys me to to end when people asks stupid, brainless 'surface-y' questions-

rhetoric questions, questions for which the person who is answering probably has no answer, questions which don't need an answer, etc-

i must have said this just only about a zillion times but
'are you okay' is nearly the worst question ever, because to give an optimistic guess i've only ever been asked that 9 out of 10 times when i really was not okay.
so what happens then? the question actually makes you feel worse than you already originally felt because on top of trying to cheer yourself up you have to put on a smile and reassure other people that you/things are okay. Not okay at all.

which is why when i usually adopt the passive approach when trying to understand things/situations/people. You observe, and you wait to receive input, if any, and provide timely feedback if required.

people would tell you stuff if they want to,
and when they want to.

that's what i believe anyway.

but i do admit there are some people/things/situations for which if you do not probe your knowledge of them will remain what can be seen on the surface because they don't allow you to see more/deeply into them than everyone else can see.
