i do have a propensity to be massively late, such as today even though actually i managed to make it on time with the help of something that was nothing short of a mini-miracle, but my being late, it only happens, like 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the time.
i swear.
(urgh, i just hate it when people are late!)
My watered-down Malay was put to the test today when we were put in a foreign land with nothing to help us except the friendly local guides/friends (which was quite helpful actually). But anyway i always get a kick from trying to pick up/converse with locals using whatever their mother tongue is- Malay in KL/JB/Ipoh/Penang, Japanese in Japan, etc... whatever. Even in london my colleague and i were picking up the small subtle differences that their language is spotted with- saying 'crips' instead of 'chips', saying 'whereabouts' instead of 'where', trying to speak with the British accent and all-
But it was oh so fun. It is, fun.
It was exactly the same today.
And when people see you're making an effort to learn their native tongue, you connect in a way that you could never ever have done so otherwise. It really jump-starts your relationship with them in ways that i cannot even begin to describe.
i'm a little tired from all the walking, talking, trying to remember names, my coughing (ohgodwhyisitnotover =( ), go-karting, bumper car rides and bumming.
Maybe when i can come up with something more meaningful or insightful, i would write another post.
goodnight.
