I'm not much of a trend follower, but since i was bored i'd thought i'd check out what the Fall fashion runway trends are. They do say that fashion (always) follows a cycle, so who knows, something old and forgotten in my closet might become fashionably and trendy again this season-
Had a brief look online- most sites like to have this '10 biggest trends'- and no surprise, fur, capes and ponchos, and velvet (left) are making a comeback. I'd worked with velvet during my days as a Rag costume designer and to be honest i hated it back then, and even know i have this ambivalence about it. I just don't like the way it gives you a really dull and dowdy kind of feeling, especially if made into pants. It'd almost look like you're going for the old-royalty kind of look but failing miserably. Though perhaps on gowns it'd give a different look.

So the (un)surprises aside, here are my top 4 favourite trends: boots as the new leggings, (as seen on Rodarte above), leather making a comeback(no surprise too), wolly-knit turtlenecks (though unappropriate for our weather =( but ok for freezing cold offices! =3), and the conservative collar.

Leather's a bit too much sometimes and overhyped but i think if not overdone gives a nice tough edge to things. Project runway's Seth Aaron, for example, often made punk-inspired leather-incorporated looks that were really couture yet wearable.

Ann Demeulemeester's Fall 2010 collection is also really fantastic It has the obvious punk rock element but the mix of fabrics and approach gives the collection a nice romantic feel.

and i'm typically not a fan of red, but this blood red with jet black pairing is really simply bloody perfect.

Besides Ann Demeulmeester, i'd chanced upon the fall collection for Temperly London and i absolutely love it as well.

i know the yellow striped set is pushing things a little but it'd be so chirpy to wear in the office! And the turtleneck offshoulder with black and white ensemble is just perfect. The looks are really coherent and well-put-together, and so wearable. Except for maybe the fur hood- unless you want to die from heat stroke walking along the pavement =/
The blouse with the drape details would be perfect for dress down fridays, and the jewel-embellished gown for more formal occasions.
