people can not be in contact with you for months, or even years, and then out of the blue, send you a message asking how you are, what you're doing, where you are etc.
what if you died? Got eat by a tiger? Fell on the mrt tracks? Got stabbed by angsty teens?
Okay so maybe there aren't many tigers in singapore, besides in the zoo, and if you fell on the mrt tracks your name would be in the front page the next day; same if you got stabbed by angsty teens-
but my point is, how can people go on living their lives, not care, and the suddenly one day out of the blue, maybe they're sleeping on the bus home and suddenly they're woken up by a jam and have nothing better to do, or they see that like 20 other friends on their facebook account have written 'happy birthday' on your wall and feel obliged/pressurized to or maybe suddenly they are just so free/not busy anymore they are actually able to think about you. it's a silly experiment but i tried- no declared birthday last year and thus 3? facebook birthday wishes. and this year the facebook birthday reminder brought in more than 30? from people i haven't spoken to for more than 3? 4? years even.
it's strange. People are strange.
i couldn't do that-
i wouldn't write happy birthday on anybody's wall unless it really mattered-
and i wouldn't need a facebook birthday reminder to remind me of a person's birthday- if that person really matters/mattered.
i don't know-
people are strange.
and i don't know quite how to relate to/reply them.
----------------------------------------------
this is definitely the first time when i smsed somebody to say that it's my birthday but i'm not asking for a present.
strangely it didn't feel embarrassing or awkward.
but when i saw the reply,
i knew for the rest of my life i would never do it again.
ever.
