shanta and i were talking about this on the taxi ride-

i'm waking up everyday with the sense of anticipation that the straits times will provide me immense amusment- because of the extremely defensive-sounding headlines that have been on these days-

people don't expect a flawless government- singaporeans have their fair share of complaints but i believe most have a positive attitude towards the government and are largely thankful for the amount of work and contribution the government has made towards our nations' growth and development.

If mistakes have been made, mishaps have occurred, it is a mature and wise approach to accept that precautions could have been taken and that improvements will be made in future. Just apologise and Singaporeans (at least me, and shanta) will accept it wholeheartedly. Shirking responsibility and adopting an ultra-defensive stand is not exactly the most sensible approach-
Given the snowballing of recent unpleasant events, and the upcoming elections, the ultra-defensive-'we-are-n0t-at-fault-at-all' stand is likely to undo all the good that the state has done for society in it's early years, because bad things leave a more lasting memory than smooth-sailing ones.

and also-
saying there'll be heavy rainfall during the weekend and asking citizens to expect it,
and then retracting the forecast on friday and saturday,

questionable, isn't it?
better-to-be-safe-than-sorry-approach. HA.

on another issue-
the floods in sg have just be a small fragment of what's been happening around the globe. Crazy flood waters in china, Blazing heat in Britain (the hottest so far);

don't know what to expect next really.
i think we (humans) really screwed up (the earth) too much.

still people are not printing double-sided notes because 'it's easier to study that way' and when questioned the reply is 'i couldn't care', taking private transport over public (okay i guess with the distance fares thing SBS really screwed up big time even i'm thinking of boycotting my favourite long-distance rides), using plastic bags incessantly (oh the immense amount of guilt and sin that overwhelms me when i forget to bring my fabric bag out and am forced to take a plastic bag), blah blah blah.

it's not my problem now of course-
i doubt i'll live to see it;

but our kids, or kids of our kids, or kids of our kids of our kids,

will definitely suffer.
